The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority celebrated the 300,000th visitor milestone on 31st December 2019. The country increased its overall visitor figures for 2019 by 14.9% following successful strong strategic push targeting low season travel.
Royal Caribbean to open first of its new Beach Club Collection on Antigua
Royal Caribbean has announced that it will open the first of its new Beach Club Collection on Antigua in 2021. Built exclusively for Royal Caribbean guests, the first Royal Beach Club will be located along a half-mile spot of beachfront near Fort James. Curated as the ultimate beach experience, the Royal Beach Club Collection will bring the unique features and flavours of Antigua to life. Guests can take in the island’s exceptional views from private cabanas or plunge into a stunning pool and swim up to the bar to order a classic rum punch. Specific designs for the Beach Club are yet to be announced but the company expects to offer regional fare, island-style BBQs and live music, along with unforgettable experiences, including such thrills as wave runners, paddle boarding and snorkelling.
Hammock Cove Resort & Spa has opened doors
The Hammock Cove Resort and Spa is one of Antigua’s newest luxury resorts. The resort is located just a short walk from the UNESCO World Heritage Site Devil’s Bridge National Park and sits on its own private, protected bay which glistens with turquoise water. The resort highlights include its free-standing villas with modern but authentic Caribbean décor featuring a balcony, an infinity edge plunge pool, spa style bathroom and liquor bar. The resort also offers two restaurants, with world class menus, and craft beers. The spa at the resort offers a wide array of one of a kind body and beauty treatments, a yoga pavilion, fitness centre, and wellness activities. The resort will feature its own rum sommelier for guests to enjoy the best of carefully selected Caribbean rums. The new rum sommelier role is part of the resort’s wider initiative to put gastronomy centre stage when it comes to the guest experience.
Nonsuch Bay Resort in Antigua launches an adult-only sanctuary
Located on secluded, unspoilt Nonsuch Bay in Antigua, the resort is one of the most luxurious all-inclusive hotels on the island. The new adults-only area is called The Escape and is the only resort on the Island where every unit includes a luxurious private plunge pool with breathtaking sea views. The Escape is located on the other side of the hill which is out of sight and at least a quarter of a mile away from the family-oriented section of the resort.
The Escape is ideal for a romantic getaway, boasting a private on-site beach as well as five deserted beaches on nearby Green Island which is a short boat ride offshore. The Great House Antigua has expanded
The Great House Antigua has opened its new cottage suites. The Great House is a 350-year-old sugar plantation which has recently undergone renovation and building work. Rum in the Ruins

The Sailing Capital of The Caribbean, with a history of prestigious sailing regattas, and perfect sailing conditions, takes advantage of strong tradewinds, and breathtaking waters to host the first ever Antigua and Barbuda Kite Surf Week taking place from 24th June – 30th June 2020. The best freestyle riders from across the world will be joining the sun, sea and sand nation for a week of fun and competitive race events.

For the self-proclaimed-foodies and gourmands, Antigua and Barbuda Restaurant Week from 11th May – 24th May 2020, will be a feast for your eyes and delight your taste buds. Join in on the celebrations and dine out at Antigua and Barbuda’s finest restaurants, where expert chefs will serve up tantalising cuisine at attractive pre-fixed prices.
The GeoTourist app includes laid out maps to help travellers make the most of their visit to Antigua. The country will be the first Caribbean destination to introduce its own app. The new app is free to download and is available on iPhone, iPads, Android phones and tablets.
Visitors will be guided by Antigua and Barbuda local media personalities Jamilla Kirwan and Peter Gordon, who will share historical facts on structures, monuments and cultural icons. The app highlights must-see historical sites in Antigua’s capital of Saint John’s, as well as within the UNESCO World Heritage site, Nelson’s Dockyard.
INCREASED FLIGHTS TO ANTIGUA
Antigua will welcome even more visitors from the UK in 2020 following the Virgin Atlantic announcement to increase flights from London Gatwick to Antigua. The services will boost from three per week to four flights per week, from 8th June 2020. The service will move onto the A330-300, increasing Upper Class capacity by 63% and will open more hub connections from across the UK.
