Thinking of a career change or a new venture? Do you have a passion for good wine? Then, how about grasping a unique opportunity to live the dream and run an established and award-winning vineyard set within the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

An attractive farm and successful vineyard is for sale
Brook Farm has been home to Lavenham Brook Vineyard and Nick Thomson for some 15 years

Brook Farm is a real gem, set in an idyllic location with stunning views, extending to just under 130 acres. The farm includes grassland, woodland, a large orchard and a range of agricultural buildings. However, Brook Farm is no run of the mill farm; it is a very special place.

It is home to Lavenham Brook Vineyard, established in 2003 and now spanning 10 acres, with over 10,000 established vines. The Vineyard supplies two grape varieties, Bacchus and Pinot Noir, which are used by Piers Greenwood one of Britain’s leading wine makers, to produce the fine English wines from Lavenham Brook.

A farm shop, new bottle store and office are a recent addition to the site at Brook Farm and have been constructed for tasting and sales of the wine and heritage apple juices produced from the farm orchard. The popular farm shop also stocks a range of local produce all sourced from the East Anglia region.

Current owner Nick Thomson (71) has single-handedly built Brook Farm up into an enviable enterprise. He says: “I will be very sorry to say farewell to such a magical place. I have put a lot of hard work into it and it has been my life for nearly 15 years, but unfortunately I am not getting any younger and I feel it is time to step aside and let someone else have a go”.

A great pleasure

Nick goes on to say: “Suffolk has proven to be a very good place to grow grapes, and we are blessed with a climate here that just suits them. I hope that whoever takes on Brook Farm gets as much enjoyment out of it as I have had over the years; it is very hard work, but it is also a great pleasure.”

Brook Farm has just come on to the market with a guide price of £1.21million, which includes freehold of the land and buildings. The farm also has a 75-strong herd of rare breed Pedigree Red Poll cattle, currently holder of the National Herd Championship, that enjoy the rich pasture land, providing high quality beef. The cattle, stocks of wine and apple juice are available by separate negotiation. The farm is for sale as a whole, but is also offered in four lots.
