www.homesandtravel.co.uk is always happy to help raise awareness for charities, especially when people are going that extra mile to help others. In the case of the two Bens, they are going an extra 1,400 miles!
Ben Foster tells the story so far:
“Welcome to our charity page. Last summer we both set out on our own adventures around and across the British Isles. Six weeks after I left Hastings on a 3-month bike ride along the British coastline I came across a scruffy looking walker wearing a high viz jacket and a trilby.
“This was when I first met Ben who was on his third day of a 1,000-mile walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End. On that section of the A9 just outside the Scottish village of Dunbeath we chatted for a while, swapped phone numbers and continued our journeys.
“Our paths crossed again at the town of Gretna Green and after that we kept in regular contact, swapping stories and motivating each other through tough times. We both successfully completed our challenges and raised money for our charities. We had barely finished before we started organising our next adventure.
“On the 29 May Ben and I will be riding onto a ferry to St. Malo where we will start a 7-week bike trip that will take us down the west coast of France, then across to Andorra where we will cross the Pyrenees. From there we will make our way to Gibraltar before we turn around and ride up to Bilbao where we will be catching our ferry home. We aim to average around 60 miles a day and to sleep wherever we can safely put up our tents.
“I’ll be riding my touring bike and the other Ben will be riding Julie. Julie is an old ladies bike Ben found in a skip and has spent the last few months restoring it just for this trip. I have a bike built for cycle touring (with a strong frame and loads of gears) and one big trip under my belt. This is Ben’s first big bike trip and he only has three gears to do it on! Julie will be fine but I’ll bring a rope for towing, just in case!
“We will be raising money for Orchid, a charity that raises awareness and carries out pioneering research in the fight against male cancers (see below). Please donate as much as you can to this great cause. Also you can follow our progress on my blog (bengine.tumblr.com) or follow us on Twitter (@foster3389). Thanks for visiting this page and please spread the word.”

Orchid exists to save men’s lives from testicular, prostate and penile cancers through pioneering research and promoting awareness. Our aim is to fund research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of these diseases and to promote awareness about them.
